Team Member to Help With Auto School Opening in Nigeria

Our Service Techs are known for going the extra mile for customers and one another. One of them, Keith Talackine, is literally going 4,999 miles further than that. He is taking his efforts help auto techs in Nigeria!

This is part of a mission trip with Keith’s church, St. James Anglican Church of Penn Hills. The Monroeville Hyundai Tech will spend several weeks there to help with the start of a school for auto mechanics.

Keith has been with #1 Cochran for a little more than a decade. His automotive career began when he enrolled in CCAC’s automotive program Automotive Service Educational Program or ASEP. General Motors sponsored it. He also had to have sponsoring dealership, which was #1 Cochran.

Keith says that his time at #1 Cochran has been an awesome venture so far. He credits his boss & mentor, Jim Downs. “He really gave me the confidence to make me the technician I am today.”  The tech also spoke highly of his coworkers. “I also have had the pleasure of working with great co-workers who have become friends, which has greatly enhanced my experience”.

Keith is an asset to our team. He is one of #1 Cochran’s 2016 Top Gun Class honorees, achieving top 15% performance levels in Flat Rate Service for the fourth time.

Keith said that he met Bishop Lamido two years ago while visiting a friend. That is when he said this opportunity came about. “He told me about Nigeria and what needs they had and was very excited about my skill set,” he said. The Bishop returned last year, mentioning his plans for an auto repair school and its purpose: to equip people with a skillset to help themselves and the area.

A trip like this would be a first for Keith. He said that since he’s been so blessed to have people who have invested in him, “it’s my responsibility to give back by investing in others.”

In addition to teaching others, Keith said that he hopes to gain an understanding of Nigeria’s culture. He also hopes to make new friends and deepen friendships with those who are going with him.

We at #1 Cochran take great pride in knowing that one of our Team Members can make a difference here and halfway around the world. We want to wish Keith all the best on his trip— and we can’t wait to see the pictures!
