Infiniti’s Redesigned Q60 Makes Historic International Debut

Infiniti’s redesigned Q60 is making its way into showrooms everywhere. It has all of the right curves and the power to hold your attention.

The Q60’s low and curvy design complements its functionality quite nicely. The midsize coupe uses steer-by-wire electronic direct adaptive steering, which allows drivers to select tension settings based on driving conditions. Of course, there are engine options: The base engine is a 208-hp 2.0-liter turbo four, while the optional 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 makes 300 hp. The hood and mirrors were shaped to reduce drag. The V-6 models feature active grille shutters to further support aerodynamics, opening only when the engine requires additional cooling.

The luxury automaker expects coupe sales to grow in the U.S. and globally. IHS Automotive forecasts that coupes could rise to 5-percent of global midsize auto sales by 2022, up from near-zero volumes in 2008-09.

The Q60 is already making international waves. It’s the first American car to touch Cuban ground in nearly 58 years; that’s longer than Infiniti’s Corporate VP and Chief Designer Alfonso Albaisa has been alive!

The Cuban-American’s parents left the island before he was born. Due travel restrictions for Americans, he hasn’t been able to return. As those restrictions have loosened recently, he decided to make a trip this summer and brought his latest design endeavor with him. On the last night of Albaisa’s four-day trip, he unveiled the Infiniti at a private art gallery. About 150 Cuban designers, architects, students and artists showed up to meet Albaisa.

Randy Parker, vice president of Infiniti Americas, vows to get the redesigned car to dealers as quickly as possible to make sure inventories are available as customers come looking.

Not only do we have the Q60 in our North and South Hills Infiniti Galleries, we will be holding model launch events at each location in the second week of October. You will have to stay tuned for more details.
